The Chase star Paul Sinha, 51, bravely opened up while on stage at the Ealing Comedy Festival. He discussed his ‘tough diagnosis’ and his worries about the future of his health
ITV’s The Chase star Paul Sinha made a heartbreaking revelation about his health status after candidly opening up about his Parkinson’s Disease diagnosis
The super-quizzer and comedian took to the stage this week at Ealing Comedy Festival, where he discussed his “progressive, degenerative neurological condition” and admitted it’s a “tough diagnosis” to grapple with.
Sinha’s sad news came just months after he tied the knot with his husband Oliver Levy in 2019, whom he met on the quiz circuit, making it a year of contrasting emotions, reports the Express.
He recalled experiencing a “crushing tightening episode of chest pain” while conversing with Celebrity Big Brother alumnus and Reggae Reggae Sauce creator Levi Roots, after jokingly referring to him by his birth name – Keith Valentine Graham.
Paul joked: “I thought, either I’m having a heart attack, or I’ve fallen prey to a mysterious Rastafarian death threat!”
The comedian suffered two heart incidents within a mere seven days during last year’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Simultaneously, he painted a grim image of how his Parkinson’s could impact him in the coming decades.
“I’m well aware that in 15 to 20 years time, I might be completely immobile and totally expressionless,” he confessed.
Despite the sombre moment, he brought some levity with his trademark wit, saying: “But hey – I’m still Australia’s number one break dancer! Sometimes these things are sent to try us.”
Parkinson’s Disease is a neurological condition that typically begins with mild symptoms, including tremors and balance problems.
However, as the condition progresses, people may struggle with mobility, speech, and swallowing difficulties, which can eventually lead to dependence on a wheelchair.
Currently, there is no cure for Parkinson’s, and while some individuals experience rapid progression of symptoms, others can go years without significant impact on their daily lives.
Comedian and quiz show favourite Paul has pledged to continue entertaining and challenging audiences for as long as his health allows, vowing to face life’s challenges with “optimism”.
In a light-hearted moment, The Chase celebrity couldn’t resist poking fun at “unemployed” viewers, drawing hearty laughter from the audience.
Elsewhere in the Showbiz world, Sharon Osbourne’s final act of love for Ozzy has been revealed as pals shared the ‘unusual deal’.
During the gig, Ozzy, who was living with Parkinson’s disease, performed sat down in a giant bat throne. Of course, one of his most iconic moments is biting the head off a bat on stage.
But Sharon had to go through a difficult battle with insurers to make sure the Back To The Beginning benefit, which raised £140million for charity, could go ahead.
