The Brit Awards nominated star, who has sold over a million albums, surprised shoppers at a local Tesco in Bedford, where he grew up.
Pop star Tom Grennan left fans stunned when he appeared at a blind taste test event which was taking place at a local Tesco in his hometown of Bedford. Shoppers were blindfolded as part of a taste test for popchips. But while they shoppers tried out the range of flavours for the “better-for-you” snack little did they know, 29 year old Grennan had swapped places with a member of staff to surprise them.
The shoppers recognised the local-star immediately, and were fortunate to presented, by Tom, with VIP tickets to an exclusive gig which will take place later this month.
Local customer Liz Sullivan, aged 46, couldn’t contain her excitement once she whipped off her blindfold and realised she was hearing the familiar tones of her adored musical talent. She gushed: “OMG, I know whose voice that is – this is the most ridiculous day.”
Meanwhile, Lucas Johnston, an 18 year old fan from Oxfordshire, was quick to spot his hero and greeted him with a friendly, “How are you, boss?”
The artist, who now calls London home, shared his affection for Bedford, reflecting on how it feels to make a special comeback. He commented: “Coming back to my hometown, where it all started for me, and pulling off this surprise for my fans was so special.
“I’ve got so many fond memories here,” he added. Grennan’s fourth studio album ‘Everywhere I Went, Led Me to Where I Didn’t Want to Be’ is due to drop on the 15th August.
To top off the heart warming meet and greet, he said: “Teaming up with popchips to give back a little joy to the people who have supported me from day one was amazing.”
