Former TOWIE star Ferne McCann has backed her decision to breastfeed two-year-old daughter Finty in public after trolls slammed her with “every comment you can imagine”
Ferne McCann has broken her silence after being slammed for breastfeeding her two-year-old.
The TOWIE star breastfeeds Finty in public and has admitted that “lots of people find it weird”. In a recent interview, Ferne revealed she “doesn’t know when she’s going to stop” breastfeeding her child and opened up about the ‘sensitive subject’.
“We’ll be out in public and she’ll have her hand down my top but I’m so used to it now, I sometimes think we’ll just do it in the morning and the evening but then we slip back into our routine – it really is her comfort,” she told Heat magazine.
“There are so many benefits to breastfeeding even past two years old. I know it’s a sensitive subject but I feel really proud that i’m sharing our journey so that it becomes more normalised.”
She continued: “I’ve had every comment that you can imagine – lots of people find it weird, but we’re just going with it,” reports the Mirror.
Recently she addressed the constant questioning about her parenting method and took to Instagram to share a video of herself and her daughter, explaining why she ‘still’ breastfeeds her: “I get asked all the time: “Are you STILL breastfeeding?’ To me it feels like the most natural thing in the world and I wonder when the question changed from: ‘Are you breastfeeding?’ to: ‘Are you still breastfeeding?”
Ferne then said that there is “so much misinformation” about how long a mother should breastfeeding and what is “appropriate” for a child.
The star explained: “Here’s what most people don’t realise…WHO recommends breastfeeding at least until 2. It boosts immunity and connection, still. You’re not “spoiling” them. You’re nurturing them. Let’s keep the conversation open.”
The video featured Ferne breastfeeding Finty on the beach with the caption: “Yes, she’s 21 months and yes, we’re still breastfeeding.”
Her post was met with immediate support from fans who praised her in the comments section as one person wrote: “I have no idea why people think that’s anyone’s business but yours. Well done you.”
“I say it again, THANKYOU for using your platform like this,” another commented, while one added: “People need to be more mindful of their language and using words like ‘still’.”
