Rapper Tupac Shakur was unexpectedly shot and killed by an unknown gunman back in 1996 and his family and friends had a rather unusual way of honouring his memory
Tupac Shakur’s ashes were reportedly smoked by his friends and family.
New details regarding the rapper’s death have been revealed by Suge Knight, former Death Row Records CEO. Tupac signed with the company back in 1995 and Knight was driving the car that he was shot in.
He was shot four times, twice to the chest which left him on life support in the hospital. Tupac did not survive and sadly died aged 25 in 1996.
60-year-old Knight recently spoke to People from prison, where he is currently serving a 28 year sentence for a fatal hit and run accident.
The star claimed that Tupac’s friends and family smoked his remains after his cremation, which reportedly happened immediately after his death by request of his mother Afeni Shakur.
According to Knight, the rapper’s pals packed his ashes into a blunt: “A bag of his ashes was passed around, his homies rolled him up. They smoked him.”
“You gotta understand that’s what made sense. It was symbolic. It’s like you keep a part of him.”
However, Knight did not partake in honouring Tupac in this way and explained: “I was so happy to say I was on probation, I couldn’t smoke. I told his mother: ‘Moms, I’d love to but if I hit that I’ll get in trouble.'”
“I was probably the only one who didn’t hit [smoke] him,” he said, before claiming that he spent over $1 million on Shakur’s immediate cremation.
Knight also opened up about the night Tupac died and said that he “tried to tell police officers what happened” as he was “bleeding everywhere,” because a bullet gazed his head during the incident.
“I then was getting Tupac out of the car, even when the door was open. I had to go over there bleeding everywhere, take the seatbelt off him.”
Tupac was pronounced dead after being taken to hospital and the identity of his killer has remained a mystery for the decades since.
