Good Boy, an upcoming horror film shot from the perspective of a dog, has left film fans deeply disturbed as they threaten to riot if the movie contains one heartbreaking moment
Good Boy, a horror film shot from a dog’s point of view, is causing havoc before it has even been released.
The upcoming horror movie stars the adorable Indy, a sweet ginger and white pup who belongs to the film’s director Ben Leonberg and producer Kari Fischer.
The film follows Indy and his owner Todd as they leave city life for a future in the country. However, Indy grows suspicious of their house and is perplexed by empty corners and visions of the previous occupant’s horrific death.
Todd becomes influenced by whatever is going on in the house and Indy must do everything he can to save his best friend. Good Boy is set to hit US theatres on 3 October while the UK has to wait until 10 October.
Horror fans are clearly already excited to catch the film in cinemas as social media has been ablaze with talk about the movie’s unusual premise. Many have joked that Indy will be the “first dog ever nominated for best actor in a leading role,” while others are already “invested” in the plot.
In the trailer’s comment section one person threatened: “If the dog dies we riot,” as another viewer typed: “If the dog dies John Wick is showing up in the sequel.”
“OMG the dog is so adorable. I’m stressed just watching the trailer. If something happens to him…” wrote another horror fan, while a second person said: “The dog’s crying is making me cry,” and a third added: “That dog is beautiful, please protect him at all costs [crying emojis].”
Another person gave their verdict: “This isn’t a comedy or a parody, it’s genuinely unnerving during certain segments.”
Other fans noted similarities between Good Boy and Courage The Cowardly Dog, a Cartoon Network series that follows an anxious dog who lives with elderly owners and struggles to protect them from the paranormal.
The film’s director spoke about the project to Den of Geek and explained: “This is a horror movie, it’s definitely a horror movie, but for Indy this is a love story.”
“He loves his person. He would do anything to protect him and he’s detecting that something is wrong and once he realises that there is this malevolent force, he’s trying to protect his owner at any cost.”
The director said he had the idea after watching Poltergeist, “which begins with the Golden Retriever exploring the house clearly aware that something is going on before the humans are.”
