David and Victoria Beckham are said to be “heartbroken” over the ongoing feud with their eldest son Brooklyn and his wife Nicola, but Posh is using a “new coping mechanism” to deal with the pain
Victoria Beckham is said to be “heartbroken” by the family rift with eldest son Brooklyn and his wife Nicola.
Tensions have been escalating in the Beckham family in recent months, but reached new heights when Brooklyn Beckham, 26, and wife Nicola Peltz, 30, decided to renew their marriage vows in America,deliberately excluding every single member of the Beckham family from the guest list.
The rest of the Beckham family seemed to be enjoying themselves on their £16million yacht, but sources say Victoria is particularly heartbroken. David, 50, and Victoria, 51, allegedly only found out about the event after social media pictures were posted online.
Clinical psychologist Dr Sona Kaur said that Victoria’s social media posts might be concealing her genuine emotions. Dr Kaur said: “Emotionally, she may be trying to protect herself from everything that’s happening, and it might be a coping mechanism and a way of dissociating herself from pain and loss.”
Through a series of Instagram pictures, Brooklyn and Nicola were captured reconfirming their commitment during an extravagant celebration at her family’s countryside mansion close to New York.
Nicola wore her mum Claudia’s vintage 1985 bridal gown, whilst her billionaire father Nelson took charge of conducting the ceremony.
A source told The Mirror: “Victoria’s heart is breaking behind closed doors.”
They continued: “Brooklyn is her firstborn and she’s worried she’s never going to get him back. Seeing him and Nicola renew their vows without her and David was tough. They have missed out on some big family moments already and Victoria is afraid that the longer this goes on, the less chance there is of it being resolved.”
Brooklyn and Nicola also shared snaps from their butterfly-themed celebration afterwards, with famous faces including actor Adrien Brody and his partner Georgina Chapman in attendance.
This week, Posh and Becks posted their own images from a sun-drenched getaway in the south of France, where they were spotted aboard a yacht and dining out with their other children Romeo, 22, Cruz, 20, and Harper, 14.
The source added: “Victoria has been posting smiley pictures on Instagram and it looks like they were having a great holiday, but that doesn’t mean Brooklyn isn’t on her mind.
“It’s been so long now that Victoria is wondering if this really is it. It’s the exact opposite of time being a healer.”
Dr Kaur said the split must be particularly distressing with the world looking on. Adding: “Any kind of family estrangement is painful, but especially when it plays out in public. The psychological impact of that gets magnified on a different level.”
David recently seemed to extend an olive branch to Brooklyn by liking one of his Instagram posts where he gives a cooking tutorial using his hot sauce brand, Cloud 23.
However, Brooklyn didn’t acknowledge David’s 50th birthday in May, nor did he say anything on Father’s Day in June.
He also didn’t publicly wish his mum a happy birthday in April, and while the rest of the family were partying in Miami, he and Nicola were conspicuously missing.
In July, Brooklyn appeared to overlook his parents’ 26th wedding anniversary, and he also didn’t mention David’s recent knighthood on social media.
The source added: “David can’t believe Brooklyn could do this to his family. He just doesn’t understand it, and as a family man he feels really let down.”
They continued: “David feels they’ve tried to patch things up but aren’t getting anywhere with Brooklyn and Nicola, so all he can do now is put his wife and the rest of the family first.”
Just last month, Brooklyn found himself blocked on Instagram by his brothers Romeo and Cruz.
Despite this, he did take time to celebrate Harper’s 14th birthday on the same day, and later in July, he paid tribute to his grandad Ted Beckham on his 77th birthday, sharing a throwback snap of them together with the caption, “Happy birthday grandad. I love you xx.”
