Wimbledon fans are amazed at one Hollywood legend’s gesture to the royals.

Actor Matthew McConaughey made a surprising show of respect to the Windsors as they entered the Royal Box at Wimbledon on 13 July, which earned him the praise “southern gentleman” from many impressed onlookers.

Video footage showed William and Kate, along with their children Princess Charlotte and Prince George, navigating through the crowds. Kate looked stunning in a Royal blue dress and William donned a blue and white double-breasted suit.

The royals exchanged pleasantries with a few attendees and Matthew was seen in the background. As the Royal pair descended the stairs, Matthew was spotted rising from his seat in a gesture of respect, while others around him stayed seated.

This moment didn’t escape the notice of fans on X/Twitter as one person tweeted: “Matthew McConaughey standing to applaud the Prince & Princess of Wales. What a lovely southern gentleman.”

Another echoed: “Real class!” While another posted: “[Kate’s] looking lovely, as she did yesterday as well. And the applause for her is well deserved. People genuinely wish her well, after what she’s been through.

“Matthew was raised right. Always something I have admired,” another fan commented. Some were taken aback that an American would know to stand for the monarchy but appreciated the gesture, reports the Express.

Joining Matthew in the Royal Box were other famous faces such as Paul Mescal, Nicole Kidman and London Mayor Sadiq Khan. Keira Knightley was seen alongside Andrew Scott, while Vogue editor Anna Wintour was also spotted mingling with fellow A-listers.

Olympic hero Sir Chris Hoy was also present with his wife Lady Sarra Hoy, following his diagnosis with stage 4 prostate cancer last year.
