Wynne Evans breaks silence after new Strictly scandal over ‘sex toy gift’

Wynne Evans has broken his silence after a supposed video emerged which saw him gifting Strictly Come Dancing co-star Jamie Borthwick with a sex toy.

Initial reports say the pair were warned about the video by BBC bosses. The video was allegedly shared on a WhatsApp group with the celebrity contestants from last year’s series (2024). Taking to his Instagram story, Wynne wrote: “Ice bath view. Love to you all #mentalhealth.” He also shared a photo of his garden that appeared to be taken from an ice bath.

In footage obtained by The Sun on Sunday, Wynne supposedly gifted Jamie with the sex toy backstage. Filmed just two days after Wynne was recorded making a sexual comment to Jamie about pro dancer Janette Manrara, the video sees Jamie explaining the toy was sent to Birmingham’s Utilita Arena reception by Wynne.

According to reports, Jamie smiles as he holds up the rubber toy, then points the camera at Wynne who is seen shirtless as he practices with professional dancer Neil Jones. Jamie says: “Look at what he bought me. I opened it up and he surprised me with this, didn’t he. It’s so funny.”

Jamie was said to have sent the video into the group chat with the other dancers.

A source told The Sun: “As soon as BBC executives were made aware of this shocking and immature footage being shared they formally addressed the issue and reminded the pair they had to act professionally.

“The men were acting extremely immaturely and inappropriately, considering it was a family show, and many cast members didn’t share their crass sense of humour.”

Earlier this year, Wynne was cut from the Strictly tour after being heard making an inappropriate remark about host Janette Manrara, but the star has since hired some top lawyers to help with his case.

He has since been dropped by insurance comparison company, GoCompare. A source told Mail on Sunday: “The whole ordeal has been a real headache for GoCompare. It’s been a tough decision for them because Wynne is undeniably a major part of their branding.

“It’s also been tricky to even have him in the current ads, so it’s best not to have him filming for the next ones.”

Wynne, 53, has worked with the company since 2009 and played opera singing Gio Compario in the adverts for the past 16 years. However, he didn’t appear in the company’s most recent advert which alludes to the firm making a decision on his future with them.

A new advert will be shown across TV channels, but this time it does not include Wynne as the GoCompare man.

The Daily Star has contacted the BBC for comment.
