Jodie Comer looks unrecognisable in Doctors throwback from time before fame

Jodie Comer is best known for shows like Doctor Foster and Killing Eve, but she cut her teeth on the Brit soap opera circuit.

The 27-year-old starlet played Kelly Lowther on the BBC One medical soap Doctors, all the way back in 2012.

In an episode titled Another Day, Another Dollar, Jodie played a young mum struggling to cope with her newborn baby.

This week, Doctors is celebrating its twentieth anniversary with a special extended hour-long episode.

Paying tribute to the series, it looks at the legendary stars who got their break as part of the Doctors cast.

Jodie isn’t the only A-lister to appear on the show – Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Eddie Redmayne, Nicholas Holt, Emilia Clarke and Claire Foy have also bagged roles in the past.

Having acted since her teens, Jodie refused to go to drama school, and instead learnt from the older stars around her.

Speaking to Backstage, she recalled: “I was working with people twice or three times my age. I matured and learned so much by being in that environment.”

Before adding: “I don’t think talent or an instinct for acting is something you can teach.”

Though Jodie had a number of one-off roles in soaps like Holby City, Casualty and Waterloo Road, it wasn’t until 2013 that she got her big break.

The Liverpudlian star played Chloe Gemell, the lead character’s more popular best friend, the Channel 4’s My Mad Fat Diary.

When she was cast as Villanelle in the BBC spy thriller Killing Eve two years ago, Jodie went from national to international fame.

Last year, Forbes included her in their 30 under 30 list, and she won a Bafta and an Emmy for her acting chops.

And, with Killing Eve renewed for a third season and a number of major gigs on the horizon, it looks as though Jodie’s star talent will to continue to rise.
