Gogglebox returned to our screens tonight, and Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway was up for review from the show’s famous armchair critics.
Ant and Dec were forced to axe their live-studio audience last week, in an effort to protect the health of the cast and crew in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
Watching the episode unfold, the Gogglebox stars didn’t hold back when it came to airing their views on Olly Murs’ SNT performance.
The 35-year-old performed a rendition of his hit single, Dance With Me Tonight, for the empty studio.
Blackpool siblings Pete and Sophie took a swipe at The Voice coach as soon as he appeared on stage, cracking up with laughter.
Sophie swiped: “Wally Murs would be about right.”
Later, Pete referenced the empty studio, joking: “Sing it to the audience Olly!”
Sophie made a dig, replying: “Biggest crowd he’s performed to.”
Meanwhile, the Siddiqui family – made up of brothers Baasit and Umar and their dad Sid – cast their own judgements on the performance.
They swiped: “My name is Olly Murs I came second place in X factor.”
Luckily, the rest of the Gogglebox crew got more enjoyment from the performance, as Helena Worthington and her baby boy Erwin started dancing.
London-based pals Amira and Iqra also got up from the sofa for a boogie, clearly enjoying Olly’s upbeat vocals.
Thankfully, Gogglebox will continue airing despite the coronavirus pandemic, as Channel 4 bosses discovered a way to install cameras in the family’s homes.
Ian Katz, the Director of Programming, told Digital Spy: ”The coronavirus outbreak is an enormous creative challenge for all broadcasters and though it is having a profound impact on getting some of our productions onto screen, it’s also a time when public service broadcasters like Channel 4 can step up and help people navigate through the extraordinary challenges we all now face.”
Gogglebox airs on Fridays at 9pm on Channel 4.
