Meghan Markle's 'cringey' Disney Plus Elephant TV comeback leaves fans divided

Disney Plus documentary Elephant finally launched today but fans have been divided over the new feature-length film which stars Meghan Markle.

The Duchess of Sussex, 38, recorded the voiceover for the nature documentary before she and Prince Harry announced their plans to leave the Royal Family.

The former Suits actress is the narrator of the feature-length film, which follows the journey of an elephant mother and child as they travel across the Kalahari Desert.

Viewers witness a herd of elephants make their way through a thousand-mile journey, with a lot of footage having been captured in both Zimbabwe and Botswana.

The filmmakers reportedly requested Meghan do the voiceover, and she recorded it in the UK in the autumn 2019.

The documentary marks Meghan’s first acting gig since her and Prince Harry went solo, and Disney fans have rushed to their keyboards to offer their opinion.

One fan penned: “Just finished watching Elephant on Disney Plus. Meghan’s voice was eloquent, inviting and playful. Couldn’t get enough of this majestic family of elephants.

Another added: “After The Lion King, Elephant became my baby’s first favourite documentary. Bravo Disney and Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex, it was magical and spectacular.”

A third gushed: “Just started watching and Meghan’s voice is so soothing and natural.

“She’s so awesome. So far, it’s really beautiful and well-told.”

A fourth posted: “Elephant on Disney Plus is a beautiful documentary, and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, does a superb job narrating the journey of these magnificent animals. Kudos to the filmmakers and all involved.”

However, not everyone enjoyed the documentary with some describing it as “cringeworthy”.

One Disney fan penned: “Elephant is cringeworthy and feels more like an extended segment of ‘looking through the windows on play school’.

“I don’t think you can point the finger at Meghan Markle, more-so the writers and producers.”

Elephant is the first project announced for Meghan since leaving the royal family to pursue “financial independence”.

Rumours were rife after Meghan were spotted talking to Disney chairman Bob Iger at the Lion King premier in July 2019.

Disney Plus recently launched in the UK, bringing wth it over 500 films and 350 TV shows.

Disney has also added Dolphin Reef and Penguins to Disney Plus today, along with some behind the scenes specials on the documentaries.

These include In The Footsteps of Elephant, A Life On The Edge and Diving With Dolphins.

Megan’s payment for Elephant was a donation to the charity Elephants Without Boarders.
