Coronation Street ‘s newest face on the cobbles will be familiar to many, as ITV bosses have snapped up a former Benidorm star.
Tony Maudsley – who played Kenneth du Beke on the hit comedy series – is due to join the cast in upcoming scenes.
From 2011 until the series was cancelled in 2018, Tony played quirky hairdresser Kenneth on the Brit holiday sitcom.
On Coronation Street, his character will have a strong connection with a former fan favourite – undertaker Archie Shuttleworth.
After rumours of Tony’s casting started swirling, the 52-year-old took to his official Twitter account to confirm the news.

He announced: “Yes I can indeed confirm this to be true. I’m chuffed to be staying at my @itv home and heading to Weatherfield and I for one, couldn’t be happier.
“As a long time fan of @itvcorrie I’m thrilled to be joining the cast of my favourite show. Here’s to the next exciting chapter!”
Archie, played by Roy Hudd OBE, appeared on the show between 2002 and 2010, and famously fell for Audrey Roberts (Sue Nicholls).

Despite his best efforts to woo Audrey, he was promptly friend-zoned, eventually leaving the cobbles after the death of longtime pal Blanche Hunt (Maggie Jones).
In a 2018 episode, the soap confirmed Archie’s character had died, leaving Audrey with a whopping £80,000 in his will.
Will his son be on the cobbles to cause some trouble?

Comic Roy tragically passed away last month, with Coronation Street stars rushing to pay tribute to his life and times on the show.
Keeping his legacy alive, Tony is due to join the cast once filming of the ITV soap opera resumes.
Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday nights at 7.30pm on ITV.
