John Bishop has spoken out after he was criticised for going to visit his elderly parents on his way to a funeral during the coronavirus lockdown.
John, who is married to Melanie Bishop, said that he was going to his father-in-law’s funeral and was dropping off some provisions for his parents en route.
In the snap, which was posted on Wednesday evening, John can be seen taking a smiley selfie with his parents Kathy and Ernie, standing in the background outside the front of their home.
The comedian insisted that he “followed all the guidelines” and did not break any rules “that would affect NHS or frontline workers”.
John, 53, decided to repost the picture of himself and his parents following the social media backlash.
He wrote alongside the photo: “I am reposting this picture of a visit to my mum and dad today. Some people questioned why I was there and not at home.

John also went onto divulge that the funeral home he is attending will also stick to the lockdown rules.
The father-of-three continued: “The funeral tomorrow will also comply with all of the rules as only 8 family members will be in attendance for the burial of one of the best men I have ever known.
“I understand social media allows people a window into your life and I do not overdo it because a moment of joy like this can easily be turned into a moment of judgement from the ill informed.
“However I am reposting it because for me it illustrates what this country is all about – love and family – which even in the worst of times holds us together even if those that we love are out of reach.”
