Broadway star forced to have leg amputated after coronavirus complications

Broadway star Nick Cordero has had his right leg amputated his wife Amanda Kloots has confirmed after suffering complications from coronavirus.

The 41-year-old actor had been hospitalised at the end of March in Los Angeles, initially being diagnosed with pneumonia.

He later tested positive for the deadly Covid-19 virus.

Nick, a Tony-nominated actor had moved to Hollywood with his family during his appearance in the musical Rock of Ages.

After being admitted to a Los Angeles hospital the Canadian star was treated in an Intensive Care Unit before a drop in his blood pressure led him to be placed on life support, with the actor being in a medically induced coma since.

Cordero’s wife, Amanda Kloots has been keeping fans updated about her husband’s condition while he is treated at the famous Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre.

Taking to her Instagram story, the former Radio City Rockette said: “He made it through the surgery which is really big because obviously his body’s pretty weak.

“They’re taking him back to the room to recover and rest, so hopefully he’ll just kind of relax and rest.”

Amanda has frequently updated her social media on Nick’s condition

His initial surgery was to aid “blood flow issues coming down to his foot”, with Amanda saying: “We don’t know what the damage will be. We don’t know if he’ll be able to walk again.”

On Saturday, the celebrity personal trainer revealed that they had received the “difficult news” that blood thinners given to Nick had caused internal bleeding in his intestines.

She said: “We took him off the blood thinners, but that again was going to cause the clotting in the right leg.”

Nick moved to LA to star in Rock of Ages

Earlier in the month, she revealed: “He lost consciousness, he lost his pulse and they had to resuscitate him. It was very scary. They had a very hard time getting him back.”

A GoFundMe page has been set up by close friends of the actor in hopes of raising the funds to help with medical bills.

It’s currently £10,000 away from its £280,000 target.
