Laurence Fox dumped by mixed race girlfriend after Question Time racism row

Laurence Fox was dumped by his mixed-race girlfriend after his controversial comments about racism on Question Time.

During the programme, aired in January, the actor sparked a debate when he disagreed with an audience member, who claimed the press coverage of Meghan Markle was “racist”.

He clapped back by stating: “It’s so easy to throw the charge of racism at everybody and it’s really starting to get boring now.”

Rejecting the claims, he then stated it was “racist” to be called a “white, privileged male”.

In a recent interview with The Sunday Times, the RADA-trained son of actor James Fox, revealed he was dating a mixed-race woman who swiftly split with the star following his inflammatory remarks.

He spared details about the break-up, but did say his comments “caused a lot of stress for his family”.

His brother-in-law Richard Ayoade, who is half Nigerian, was so upset by Laurence’s attitude on Question Time things between the pair were frosty for a few weeks.

The Travel Man presenter, who is married to Laurence’s sister Lydia, was not happy with Laurence’s comments and disinvited him to the family’s weekly Sunday lunch.

He added: “There were a couple of weekends I didn’t go.”

Laurence’s Question Time comments didn’t go down well with the studio audience and divided viewers at home.

ITV host Piers Morgan said it was “a breath of honest, anti virtue-signalling fresh air” while right-wing political group Turning Point UK said it was “a critical point for our woke-era.”

Meanwhile, Labour MP Sarah Owen said: “It’s a lot easier to say racism doesn’t exist if you’ve had the privilege of never being on the receiving end of it.”
