Robbie Williams blames forgetful stage shows on past drug abuse

Robbie Williams has opened up about his previous drug use, which has led him to use autocues at his stadium performances.

The singing sensation, who has spoken freely about his addiction, admitted he has them help to him remember the lyrics to his smash hit tracks including fan-favourite Angels and Rock DJ.

After his stint in Take That, the British star carved out a successful career as a solo artist, regularly selling out huge venues across the globe.

But after years of substance abuse, the father-of-four admitted his previous nights of partying has caught up with him as now his brain isn’t “working properly”.

Speaking to The Sun on Sunday, he said: “Now if you were in a stadium full of people and you had done drugs in your life, your brain is not going to be working properly.”

Robbie added: “And the last thing you want to do when you are staring at 80,000 people is go, ‘Yep I do not remember these words’.

“That’s why I got an autocue, because I suffer with anxiety and it is a high-pressure scenario.”

The pop star, who hasn’t touch alcohol in 20 years, recently branded Brits “delusional” for not recognising the dangers of drink and drugs.

He blasted the UK’s relationship with booze and the nation’s drinking culture, saying it’s considered “as natural as breathing” and encouraged among young people.

He exclaimed: “The thing about drugs and drink is the delusion. In the UK and many places, it’s as natural as breathing.

“You just do not think about it — you leave school then you go to the pub and that is it, and then you drink.”

He added: “What I am finding since I have actually been properly sober is what a delusion that way of thinking is.

“We don’t need any of that stuff. Then it becomes a crutch and then people rely on it and I totally get it.”
