Meghan Markle to have huge power as influencer – but warned over choices

Meghan Markle is set to become the world’s top influencer, according to experts who predict that anything she touches will turn to gold.

Former Suits actress Meghan and her husband Prince Harry have recently relocated to the states and are reportedly house-hunting for a permanent home in California

The Sussexes sought financial independence when they left their positions as working royals earlier this year.

Traditionally British royals don’t accept freebies or use their social media influence to make money, but one thing Harry and Meghan have made clear is their intention to do things differently.

Before marrying Prince Harry in 2018, Meghan was a TV star and ran her own lifestyle website and blog called The Tig.

She gave up her acting career and closed her website ahead of her engagement to Prince Harry which was announced in November 2017.

From the moment the engagement was announced, Meghan’s popularity surged and everything she wore from clothes to shoes to jewellery sold out in minutes.

Fashion journalist Elizabeth Holmes, who is behind the ‘So Many Thought’ Instagram series about royal style, told Town & Country that Meghan’s power as a “dresser” will continues, despite having resigned as a senior member of the royal family.

“I think that Meghan’s power as a dresser will continue,” she said.

“There are so few people, even among celebrities, that have the kind of economic power to move merchandise the way that royal women do, so I hope and I think she’ll choose carefully.”

Christine Ross, creative director of Effervescence Media Group, a company which runs royal fashion blog ‘Meghan’s Mirror’ added to the publication: “If an independent woman-owned brand reaches out to her and says ‘Would you like to learn more about our brand, we’ll send you a necklace,’ I could see that possibly happening.

“But Meghan knows how influential her fashion choices are and how much of an economic phenomenon the Meghan effect is.

The Duke and Duchess used their combined influence to promote special projects including their charity patronages and causes they supported such as women’s rights and youth mental health through their Instagram account ‘Sussex Royal’.

Following their retirement as senior members of the British royal family, the couple was forced to stop using the brand, closing their Instagram account and making plans for a new organisation called Archwell, which will serve as an umbrella for all of their charity work, although the official launch has been postponed due to the coronavirus crisis.

Since leaving leaving the Royal family, Meghan has recorded the narration for the Disney Plus documentary Elephant, although it is understood that her payment for this was donated to Elephants Without Borders.

Meghan’s mother Doria Ragland lives in California which will come in handy if Harry and Meghan become busy with their various projects.
