Piers Morgan slams Boris Johnson lockdown speech as 'total waste of time'

Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan has slammed Prime Minister Boris Johnson ‘s speech on Sunday evening, which spoke of how the coronavirus lockdown in the UK will be eased in the coming months.

The speech didn’t go down well with much of the nation, including GMB host Piers, who took to Twitter to slam the Prime Minister.

Writing to his 7.4million followers, Piers said: “So disingenuous. The Prime Minister changed UK strategy after he was told the herd immunity policy he’d been pursuing for weeks would lead to 500,000 deaths.

“How many died unnecessarily before he U-turned to the way everyone else was already doing it?”

Sharing a screenshot of Boris on television, Piers added: “So nothing’s really changed then. Total waste of time.”

Trying to make sense of what he’d heard, the controversial presenter continued: “So, the Prime Minister is urging millions of non-essential workers to go out to work – but also telling people we still can’t see family or friends even if we maintain the same social distancing rules as non-essential workers at work? Makes no sense.”

Tomorrow, Piers will return to work on Good Morning Britain after testing negative for coronavirus.

Scotland First Minister Nicola Sturgeon is scheduled to speak on the show after she slammed the UK Government’s new slogan of “Stay Alert” instead of “Stay At Home”.

During the speech discussing previous lockdown rules, the Prime Minister said: “It’s a fact that by adopting those measures we prevented the country from being engulfed by what could have been a catastrophe in which the reasonable worse case scenario was half a million fatalities.”

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV
