Gardeners’ World’s Monty Don has lead tributes after his beloved dog Nigel has died.
The canine companion has been a regular on the hit BBC show.
Taking to Twitter, Don confirmed the sad news writing: “I am very sorry to announce that Nigel has died.
“He slipped quietly away with no pain or suffering and is now buried in the garden with lots of tennis balls.
“Rest now old friend. See you in the sweet bye and bye.”

Minutes the after the post was shared online it was flooded with messages of love and support from heartbroken fans.
One supporter wrote: “So sorry to hear that Monty.”
Another added: “Oh Monty. I’m so sorry. Such a heart aching loss. He’ll always be in the nations hearts.

“Thank you for sharing his wonderful life every week with you in the garden.
“May there be endless tennis balls for him.”
A third continued: “I am so sorry for your loss. He really was a good Boy.”
Meanwhile, BBC Breakfast presenter Dan Walker added: “How grim to hear.

“Oh Monty! So sorry x” added Sophie Raworth.
Nigel often joined Monty on the BBC series alongside his other dog Nellie.
In 2016 Monty released an autobiography were he talked about his love of dog.
Titled Nigel: My family and other dogs the book opened up about his life and his adorable golden retriever.
Talking about Nigel being on Gardener’s World, Monty said: “It helps that he is good looking – beautiful even – but what distinguishes him from other dogs is charisma, an unrivalled ability to inspire affection. He radiates goodwill.
“I feel happier seeing him; he feels tremendously happy; we are all thoroughly cheered up.”
