Coronation Street 'has 20 episodes left and will come off air in early July'

There are reportedly just 20 episodes left of Coronation Street left, with it thought to be set to go off air in the first week of July.

According to soap site Eastieoaks, the ITV soap had 21 episodes left yesterday, which means there are now just 20 left as one aired las night.

It is currently airing three episodes a week instead of its usual six, so would run out of pre-filmed content at the start of July if that is the case.

However, a source reportedly told the Sun that the ITV soap “has episodes to air past June” – which will come as good news to fans.

Coronation Street stopped filming back in March, around the time the UK went into lockdown due to the coronavirus.

The show was then cut down to three episodes a week instead of six to try and prolong the length of time it would be on air.

However if it does in fact go off air it may not be for too long, as it’s reported production will re-start next month after the government lifted restrictions.

Fellow ITV soap Emmerdale had also shut down production but is thought to be returning in June too.

“ITV are sure they’ve come up with a solution to keep everyone safe. Production is starting up again in June,” a source told The Sun.

“Emmerdale is being used as the benchmark for safety guidelines as they have a lot of space and it’s the perfect location to put the social distancing measures into practice.

“Everyone will be adhering to social distancing and scenes will be filmed with smaller groups.”

The source went on to explain that the filming crew will be able to make it look as though characters are closer together than they actually are, so they can still follow social distancing guidelines.

Coronation Street currently airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.3opm on ITV
