James Arthur has told how he ballooned to 17 stone after tucking into cakes and vegan sausage sarnies during lockdown – because “there has been nothing else for him to do”.
The Say You Won’t Let Go hitmaker revealed in an interview that he has a sweet tooth and had been mainly binging on cake and the meaty snack.
But the 6ft 3in star is determined to shed at least two stone and be in the “best shape he has ever been”.
Former X Factor winner James told The Sun : “I have put on a fair bit of weight since the beginning of the lockdown because there’s nothing else to do but stuff my face.
“I’ve got a sweet tooth so it’s just cake really. I love cake.

“I’m pretty much a vegan so I’ve been having the fake meat — sausage sandwiches and stuff like that I’ve been digging into.”
He said “It might sound extreme but I’m 6ft 3in and I weigh 17st”, adding he wants to “drop a couple of stone if possible”.
James said: “I want to come out of this thing in the best shape that I’ve ever been in, that’s something I’m genuinely striving for.”
To help him lose weight James has been doing 10-mile bike rides and has set up a gym in his home with cardio machines like treadmills and an exercise bike.

James self-isolated at his luxury home after displaying symptoms of the coronavirus in March.
At the time he took to Instagram to share several snaps from inside the property, which showed a huge indoor pool room with French doors and a leather seating area beside the window

The singer shot to fame after winning the X-Factor in 2012 and last year released his long awaited third album, which debuted at number 2 on the UK Albums Chart.
