Ruth Langsford branded 'selfish' as she hounds Matt Hancock on re-opening salons

This Morning host Ruth Langsford has upset viewers on Thursday’s episode, questioning Matt Hancock about when hairdressers will re-open.

She asked if they could start re-opening at the same time as shopping malls and non-essential stores, which is set to be next month.

The 60-year-old even went as far as giving suggestions on how they could make things as safe as possible for customers and hairdressers.

And while Matt Hancock confirmed there were ongoing discussions about it, viewers at home weren’t happy.

One tweeted: “Can’t believe Ruth is talking about haircuts. Think there’s more important things.”

Someone else wrote: “Ruth just thinking about herself again.”

A third said: “F*** off with your holidays and haircuts, far more important issues to be worrying about.”

Another commented: “All the pandemic has exposed is the absolute selfishness of the British people… 37,500 dead and all she’s on about is f***ing holidays and haircuts.”

A fifth added: “If getting a haircut is your priority in all of this, then you are a stupid, shallow, f***ing a***hole.”

And a sixth wrote: “I feel sorry for hairdressers not making money, but I struggle to feel sorry for people moaning about going to the hairdressers, people are dying!”

Matt said he “can’t commit” to giving hairdressers the same re-opening date as other non-essential shops, given the fact that they go against social distancing guidelines.

He said: “It is a challenge because, inevitably, you have to be close – but it’s not an insurmountable challenge.

“We are working on what it would look like to have that protective equipment in place.”

The health secretary added: “I can commit to working with the hairdressing industry and talking to their representatives who are making their case.

“I’m sure everyone understands it’s got to be done in a safe way.”

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV
