GMTV presenter Fiona Phillips has told how she was trolled while fighting the coronavirus and forced to leave social media after the ‘nasty’ comments became too much for her.
In March she told fans she was suffering from Covid and has now revealed that she then left Twitter because she was still receiving nasty comments when she was “at death’s door”.
Fiona, 59, told The Mirror : “I came off Twitter altogether because even when they think you’re on death’s door, there are still people making nasty comments about you.
“Covid-19 isn’t a cuddly, friendly visitor. It might think it’s cosily wheedled its way into my bed, and my body, but it’s definitely not welcome.”
When she announced she had the illness, the presenter warned her fans not to panic as she described her symptoms in a brief post.

She said: “I am in bed with #coronvirusuk It’s not a very pleasant bedfellow, but nothing more than sore throat, dry cough, headache and tiredness. As long as it stays that way…. DON’T panic!”
Fiona’s followers were relieved to hear her experience of the deadly bug was less severe than expected, and they wished her a speedy recovery.

One said: “Get well soon xx good to hear from the people who are recovering instead of all the doom from everyone else.”
When a fan asked how long she had been “suffering,” Fiona replied: “I’m not suffering. It’s fine. Thanks for asking.”
Fiona was able to leave her home after three weeks to go for a stroll.
She said there “an element of fear” to her battle against the illness.
