Martin Lewis slams Phillip Schofield 'interruption' as This Morning gets awkward

Martin Lewis took a swipe at Phillip Schofield on This Morning earlier today, telling him off for “interrupting” him.

The 48-year-old money expert appeared on the show to discuss applying for mortgage payment holidays during the lockdown, as financial concerns mount among the general public.

After taking a swipe at Phil’s age, Martin went on to scold Phillip for “interrupting” him with his famously witty comebacks on the show.

He said: “UK interest rates are at their lowest for over 325 years. Even Phil doesn’t remember that far back.”

Before adding: “I’m going to carry on so you can’t interrupt me with a comeback.”

Martin asked that he not be interrupted any further during the show

Phil kept his lips shut, refusing to interrupt him again after such a pointed telling-off.

Later, Phil got his own back, when he poked fun at the microphone on Martin’s table.

He asked: “Did you dent it?”

When Martin admitted he had accidentally dropped the mic, Phil quipped: “We could see it had a squashed top on it.”

Martin offered some helpful money advice on the show, suggesting viewers could possibly cut the cost of their mortgage if they faced financial worries.

He said: “Certainly, mortgage rates are really cheap right now, so it’s worth looking into.

“The big issue is one of acceptance, if you don’t have much equity in your home (so you have a big Loan-To-Value [LTV] ratio) over say 90%it will be tough.”

At the end of the segment, advising viewers to be extra careful when it comes to mortgages, he said: “So if you need it, do it. It’s nowhere near as bad as missing mortgage payments. If you do that, it will kill your credit score.

“But if you don’t need it, don’t do it. That’s the simple rule.”

Before finishing: “Only take a mortgage payment holiday if you need one.”

This Morning airs on weekdays at 10am on ITV.
