Rod Stewart's wife Penny Lancaster signs up to join London police force

Sir Rod Stewart’s wife Penny Lancaster is set to become a police officer.

The 49-year-old has signed up for the City of London Police as a special constable, much to the dismay of her parents and husband.

Penny joined officers on the beat for reality show Famous and Fighting Crime last year.

She said: “It was terrifying but I never felt more comfortable in a position. I felt like this is where I was supposed to be.

“So now I’m waiting for the training to begin so I can serve the community.

“My mum and dad are not so keen on the idea but I can’t wait.”

The show aired on Channel 4 last year and showed the mum-of-two, who married Sir Rod in 2007, working with officers from the Cambridgeshire force.

At one point she was confronted by a drug dealer who threatened to stab her.

Afterwards, she said the experience made her realise how underfunded the police are.

Penny will take on the part-time role once lockdown restrictions are lifted.

She said: “I feel sorry for the police right now because they really, really have their work cut out for them trying to create social distancing while trying to arrest someone.”

The Loose Women panellist underwent maths and English tests and had her fitness evaluated before being selected.

She said: “I had to sit exams and go for an interview with two officers.

“And then I did a fitness test which was the bleep test which was pretty tricky.

“Then I had to do this massive vetting form going through all personal details.”

Her husband, legendary rock star Sir Rod Stewart said: “No one’s ever been able to stop Penny if she’s decided she wants to do something.

“And I’m always behind her all the way.”
