Rhian Sugden says she 'wishes she never met Vernon Kay' after text scandal

Rhian Sugden has admitted she wishes she had “never met” Vernon Kay, after a series of flirty text messages they exchanged in 2010 went public.

Speaking in the new Channel 4 documentary Page Three: The Naked Truth, the 33-year-old claimed the incident “ruined her career”.

The Page 3 model said the aftermath of the scandal, which saw the duo both exchange flirty messages despite being in separate relationships at the time, made her feel “sick”.

Reflecting on the scandal, Rhian broke down in tears in the new Channel 4 documentary, opening up about the impact it held over her career.

According to The Sun, Rhian said: “He just got away with it. It ruined everything for me. I felt like I was going up and up with my career and then that came along. I wish I’d never met him.

“He got to give an apology on the radio and just got to carry on, with Family Fortunes, ironically. It still makes me feel sick.”

Rhian, who is married to former Coronation Street actor Oliver Mellor, opened up about the backlash she received after the story broke in the Channel 4 documentary.

She said: “There was an attraction there for both of us. I was a Page Three girl and he was Vernon Kay. He’s a good looking fella.

“He came to Manchester and that was the first night we’d met. Things just stemmed from there.

“It was all probably more bravado on text from him when he’d had a drink.

“‘Oh you look fit in that picture, sexy, wish I could see you more’.”

Rhian continued: “And then obviously it went in the newspaper. We were front-page news because we’d been sex texting each other.

“If I’d met this man, slept with him and had a full blown affair with him then I would understand the backlash. It was like I’d literally killed somebody.”

Page Three: The Naked Truth airs on Channel 4 at 9pm on June 17.
