AceShowbiz – The new SpongeBob movie has become the latest to skip theatres and head for the home cinema market.
“The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run” was scheduled to open in theatres later this summer, but now Paramount bosses are releasing it as a video-on-demand package in early 2021, following the success of family films like “Scoob!” and “Trolls World Tour“, which scrapped traditional releases due to the coronavirus pandemic and subsequent shutdown of cinemas around the world.
The movie was originally scheduled to hit theatres in late May, before it was rescheduled for August 7.
