Good Morning Britain star Kate Garraway has taken a step back from social media in recent weeks as her husband Derek Draper remains in a critical condition in hospital.
The former political lobbyist was admitted into hospital in March after he contracted coronavirus, and is on a long road to recovery after he was taken out of a medically-induced coma earlier this month.
On Father’s Day, the TV host uploaded a heartfelt post where she paid tribute to her husband as well as her children’s grandfathers, Gordon and Ken.
During the monologue, Kate revealed the reason behind the social media hiatus, and explained she has been dealing with “incredibly emotional experiences”.
Kate began: “Am sorry have not posted recently. I just needed a little time.
“They were incredibly emotional experiences and to be honest left me with a range of feelings – gratitude to ITV and Jane Moore for giving me the chance to let all who so touchingly care for Derek know what he is up against but also rather overwhelmed by the long road that lies ahead.”
Elsewhere in the note, the mum-of-two remained positive and thanked NHS staff for their unwavering hard work in keeping Derek alive.

“Whatever happens next I’m afraid it is going to be a long road, with an uncertain end that isn’t even nearly in sight right now,” she added.
“But this week I am refocusing on hope that as a family we are going to pull together with the support of friends and get through everything come what may.
“Hope – because I know that the amazing people keeping Derek alive, stand shoulder to shoulder with me in never giving up on him and, of course, hope that my wonderful Derek is going to keep fighting this and eventually start to slowly recover.”
Kate opened up about her husband’s ovid-19 battle in an emotional interview with her fellow GMB co-hosts at the start of June.
During the discussion, she revealed Derek is free of the virus, but the disease had played havoc with his body, impacting his internal organs, including his heart and kidneys.
The star has stepped back from her presenting duties in order to look after her two children, Darcey, 14, and Billy, ten, as her 52-year-old husband remains in hospital.
