Mel Gibson 'axed' from Chicken Run film after 'oven dodger' slur accusation

Mel Gibson has reportedly been axed from the Netflix Chicken Run sequel.

It comes after the US actor was accused of making an anti-Semitic remark to Winona Ryder back in 1995.

Mel – who played Rocky in the 2000 original Chicken Run film – won’t be reprising his role, The Wrap reported on Tuesday.

Daily Star Online has contacted representatives of Mel Gibson and Netflix for comment.

Winona claimed that Mel, 64, asked her if she was a Jewish “oven dodger” at a party in 1995.

The 48-year-old Stranger Things star talked about the incident in an interview with the Sunday Times and reported by the NY Post.

She said: “We were at a crowded party with one of my good friends, and Mel Gibson was smoking a cigar.”

According to the actress, the topic of the Jewish faith came up as she said Mel asked her: “You’re not an oven dodger, are you?”

The term “oven dodger” is an apparent reference to the way Jewish prisoners were incinerated in Nazi death camps.

However, this wasn’t the only inappropriate comment Mel allegedly made throughout the night.

Winona claimed he then asked her friend, who is gay: “Oh, wait, am I gonna get AIDS?”

She said Mel later tried to apologise for his offensive behaviour.

A representative for the actor told The Sun the allegations are “100% untrue.”

The rep told the publication that Mel reached out to Winona when the allegations were first reported in 2010 and “she refused to address them with him.”

Director Mel has been accused of making other anti-Semitic remarks in the past.

He faced widespread criticism for his The Passion of the Christ film, which critics said was anti-semitic.

The Anti Defamation League said in a statement that the film “could likely falsify history and fuel the animus of those who hate Jews”.

Fox News also reported in 2015 that Gibson downplayed the number of deaths suffered by Jews in the holocaust during a 2013 interview for speechwriter Peggy Noonan’s Reader’s Digest.
