Kate Garraway is in “unimaginable pain and distress” as her beloved husband Derek Draper continues to fight for life in hospital, according to friend Lorraine Kelly.
Good Morning Britain host Kate, 53, is set to return to work tomorrow to present the ITV show alongside Ben Shephard.
However, despite attempting to return to some normality in her life, Kate is still heartbroken as Derek is still in hospital recovering from coronavirus.
He has now awoken from his coma, however doctors have told Kate that Derek, 52, is still in a “critical” condition.
Lorraine, 60, opened up about how Kate is coping, saying: “She has been coping with the unimaginable pain and distress of her husband Derek battling for his life after contracting Covid-19.

“Kate has never once complained or asked: ‘Why me?’
“She has simply soldiered on, reassuring and raising her children, praising the NHS and helping others in the same boat.”
Continuing to write in her column for The Sun, Lorraine added: “At times it has been a lonely, miserable, tough voyage through uncharted waters. But Kate steered a stoic and steady course throughout.”

Kate recently appeared on GMB to speak to hosts Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid about her return to the popular programme.
She told them she felt guilty about a mistake with her son Billy, admitting she let him down when she missed an email about his year six leavers hoodie.

Kate failed to see the message and then discovered everyone in his class had a hoodie except Billy.
She explained: “I mucked up this week with the children. Billy is in year six and they’d organised this Leaver’s hoodie and they sent an email and I missed it so everyone got one and he didn’t, and he was really upset.”
Luckily another mum had a spare sweater so Billy got one in the end.
