The Chase's Anne Hegerty red faced after awkward sex joke with Alistair McGowan

The Chase brainiac The Governess exposed a chink in her normally hard exterior after accidentally making a crude sex joke during this weekend’s show, which was first broadcast in 2015.

The Governess, whose real name is Anne Hegerty, was chatting to celebrity contestant Alistair McGowan about his infamous impressions when she made the awkward fail.

Speaking with a typically stern face, The Governess turned to the star and said: “Hello Alistair, could you do me?”

While she meant could he do an impression of her, she quickly realised the innuendo she had stumbled into.

As host Bradley Walsh started to laugh the normally composed Governess started to blush.

Looking shocked, Alistair also started laughing before asking her where she was from in terms of her accent.

Keen to keep the conversation going, The Governess replied: “Originally from London but now I live in Manchester.”

The exchange ended quickly though and they got on with the quizzing.

Despite his best efforts and making £9,000 in the cash builder, Alistair was unable to make it back home safely.

Keen to push himself, the star took a gamble and accepted a huge offer of £70,000 in return for taking one step closer to The Chaser.

As a result, after just two incorrect questions, he was caught and left remaining celebs Sally Phillips and Jenny Jones to take on The Governess in the final round by themselves.

Sally and Jenny managed to win £11,000 for charity

With £11,000 in the pot for charity the girls managed to correctly answer enough questions to bag themselves 19 places in The Final Chase.

Looking concerned, The Governess said: “19 is one of those numbers where it is enough for me to worry but it’s not high enough that I won’t look stupid if I don’t catch them.”

Luckily for the duo, The Governess was unable to catch them and they bagged themselves thousands of pounds for their chosen charities.
