Four facing the death penalty over the murder of rapper Pop Smoke

Los Angeles Country District attorney’s office has confirmed that two adults, as well as two teens, have been charged with the murder of Brooklyn-born rapper, Pop Smoke.

The four face the death penalty or life in prison, without the option of parole.

Pop Smoke whose real name was Basha Barakah Jackson was killed in a Hollywood mansion on Hercules Drive in February 2020 following reports of armed people entering the property.

The Los Angeles County Coroner’s office revealed that the 20-year-old died from a gunshot wound to his chest.

Corey Walker, 19, and Keandre Rodgers, 18, were both charged with the murder of the star alongside a 15-year-old and 17-year-old, who have both been charged with a single count of murder and robbery in a juvenile court.

Earlier this week, Los Angeles Police Department arrested three adults and two teens in connection with the brutal murder.

The third suspect had been formally identified by LAPD but has not been charged according to Capt. Jon Tippet who runs the LAPD Robbery and Homicide Division.

Los Angeles Times reported that the suspect, Jaquan Murphy, would face separate charges of murder and attempted murder for a string of shootings that had taken place in Los Angeles earlier in the year.

He was later rushed to the famous Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre in West Hollywood and was pronounced dead on arrival.
