One Direction share anniversary plans with fans hoping entire band will return

One Direction fans were thrilled as plans were announced to mark their 10-year anniversary.

Hopes mounted for a five-piece band reunion, as they shared their proposal of how they will celebrate a decade since they first formed on Simon Cowell’s stage on The X Factor.

As the plans were unveiled, fans were left in suspense wondering if Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Liam Payne, all 26, Zayn Malik, 27, and Louis Tomlinson, 28, will reunite or not.

Liam had teased previously that the boy band could reform, however those plans were put on hold amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Rather than a huge stage performance, the band will mark the decade launching a celebratory website with a special video especially for fans.

The digital platform will go live on July 23 and will include interactive playlists and activations for spectators.

An array of chart topping videos, music, artwork and TV performances will be accessible via the website archive and will include backstage and unearthed content too.

Fans will be able to view the band’s timeline success, starting with their very first audition, taking fans on a journey to where it all concluded.

The documentary-style highlights will showcase One Direction’s entire 10-year spanning career.

It wasn’t long after their success on The X Factor that the five lads went on to become a global phenomenon, selling over 200 million records worldwide and over 21 billion streams across platforms.

Earlier this year, Niall appeared on Redknapp’s Home Fixture on Sky One. and shattered hopes of a reunion when he revealed there were no plans in place.

Jamie quipped: “We’ve got to chat reunions because everyone wants to know, because if it happens, it’s going to make lockdown worthwhile, it will cheer up the whole nation.

“It’s the musical reunion we all want to see, do you think Oasis are going to get back together?”

The Irish hitmaker dampened spirits, adding: “There was a bit of talk about it because in July it’s ten years since the band got together, so everyone was waiting to see if anything was going to happen.

“We’ve been chatting about it, little bits and pieces that we can do, but nothing in terms of getting the band back together, so for now, no.”
