Good Morning Britain health expert Dr Hilary Jones gave a stern warning about the incoming compulsory face covering rule.
The government has introduced a new rule which makes face coverings compulsory in shops in the latest attempt to help stop the spread of coronavirus.
But Dr Hilary, 67, has told Good Morning Britain viewers to “not do what the politicians are doing” in a shock turn of events.
The telly doctor said on Thursday’s episode: “Don’t do what politicians are doing, do what doctors and nurses are doing.
“Wear a mask if you can’t socially distance in a public indoor space. Full stop.”

He also suggested that face coverings may be required until a successful vaccine is available which, despite successful early trials, may not be until mid-2021.
Dr Hilary’s comments come after Cabinet Office minister Michael Gove was photographed without a face covering while in a Pret A Manger, even though he had said it was “good manners” to wear a mask.

Michael Gove has also caused confusion as he had previously suggested that masks would not be a compulsory measure.
Health Secretary Matt Hancock was quizzed about Gove’s Pret A Manger trip on Sky News.
He said: “You do need to wear a face mask in Pret because Pret is a shop.
“If there’s table service, it is not necessary to have a mask.
“But in any shop, you do need a mask. So, if you’re going up to the counter in Pret to buy takeaway, that is a shop. But if you go to your local pub you can’t go to the bar.”
Later, a spokesperson for the prime minister explained: “We will be publishing the full guidance shortly but my understanding is that it wouldn’t be mandatory if you went in, for example, to a sandwich shop in order to get a takeaway to wear a face covering.
“It is mandatory … we are talking about supermarkets and other shops rather than food shops.”
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV
