GMB's Adil Ray furiously shouts over ITV guest in intense black history clash

Adil Ray shut down a guest on today’s Good Morning Britain, as the experts appeared on the show to discuss the teaching of black history in UK schools.

Calvin Robinson appeared on the show, along with teacher Genevieve Bent, discussing the educational curriculum in the country and the changes that ought to be made.

Starting off the show, Genevieve said: “Black history is British history.”

While Genevieve felt it was essential to make black history a compulsory part of the curriculum, Calvin claimed it was already a substantial part of most educational programmes.

He said: “We’ve got the most rigorous history curriculum we’ve had in a long time.”

Later, Calvin elaborated on his point of view, saying: “I’m all for educating people more. I love education. It’s why I became a school teacher in the first place.

“My point is that the curriculum already covers the commonwealth.

However, the subject struck a nerve with presenter Adil, who silenced his guest with a passionate rebuttal.

He said: “No, Calvin I’m going to stop you there because you keep saying that and we’ve identified it doesn’t.

“There are five modules and they are optional. The point Kate was making there was that they are optional.

“Let me give you an example about the world war. I studied World War One and Two at secondary school.”

“Not once was I told, as a Muslim, that over a million Indian soldiers fought in that world war. And I was there with 30 other kids, majority white kids.

“Years later 9/11 happened and as a Muslim, I’m seen as being an outsider. To this day I always think if our teacher had told us back then about Muslims, about black people from Africa who fought and saved this country.”

Adil went on to explain that it was essential to educate students about black history, reflecting on his own childhood experiences.

He finished: “It’s an absolute necessity like maths and English. It would have changed all of our thinking. It would have paved the way for a more inclusive society.”

Good Morning Britain airs on weekdays at 6am on ITV
