This Morning fiery row as as father defends baby son's controversial name

Today’s This Morning saw things turn heated among viewers as they argued over a guest defending his baby’s name.

The father, Dan, was on the show speaking to hosts Rochelle Humes and Ore Oduba about why he decided to name his child Lucifer.

He told them the reason behind the unusual name, and defended it after he and his partner faced criticism when trying to register their child’s name.

Ore said Derbsyhire council had told the ITV show it was the registry’s duty to inform the couple the name may have negative connotations.

Dan was keen to promote the Latin meaning of the name Lucifer, which he claimed means “bringer of light”.

However, in Christianity, Lucifer is another name for Satan.

He said he and his partner liked the fact the name was so unusual and uncommon but said when registering his son, he was met with backlash from the registrar.

Dan added: “At one point, she even referred to Hitler and said why don’t name him Hitler?”

Viewers argued over Twitter as they were divided over whether the name was suitable for a baby.

Some thought the name was outrageous, with one saying: “Why in hell would you call your baby Lucifer?”

While another wrote: “Why would anyone want to call their child Lucifer what kind of parents will they be.”

“I feel so sorry for that poor baby. Why on earth would you call your child Lucifer knowing full well what it means…”, added a third.

Others didn’t see anything wrong with the child being named Lucifer, with one tweeting: “I LOVE the name Lucifer, great choice.

Another typed: “As long as the baby is getting fed what does it matter! Her baby her choice her business!”

“Lucifer is the coolest name!!! This world is crazy. You can’t name your baby what u want because it angers religious people? Ridiculous”, moaned another This Morning viewer.

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
