Coronation Street fans were left scratching their heads during tonight’s episode when newcomer Elaine showed face.
Revealing she was formerly in a relationship with Geoff Metcalfe, fans started speculating about whether she was Tim’s real mum.
Before tonight’s episode, it was believed that Tim’s mum was Tessa Metcalfe, who lost her life to breast cancer.
However, viewers wondered whether Elaine was Tim’s real mum, appearing in Weatherfield to rescue her son after his father accused his wife, Yasmeen, of attempted murder.
In reality, Geoff had been tormenting Yasmeen for months, controlling and manipulating her behind closed doors.
Taking to Twitter this evening, fans started speculating about her identity, convinced Elaine was Tim’s real mum.
One said: “If Tim is Elaine’s son, she needs to be having words with him. “
“Is she Tim’s mum?” a second added.
And a third agreed: “Wait, is that Tim’s mam?”
Later, Elaine confirmed the truth herself, opening up to Alya Nazir with a tearful confession on the steps outside Geoff’s house.
Opening old wounds, Elaine explained she was Geoff’s first wife – named “Phyllis” at the time – who fled the relationship for her safety.
Elaine revealed she abandoned her son, leaving Tim with Geoff in order to save herself from her abusive marriage.
She said: “You asked me how I got out, I got out by giving up my boy, my son. By leaving my baby with him.”
Alya replied: “Wait, your son? You’re talking about Tim?”
Panicked, Elaine begged: “He can’t know!”
Reeling over the revelation, Alya gasped: ” You are Tim’s mother…”
Will Tim ever find out his mother’s true identity, or will it remain another dark Metcalfe family secret?
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm.
