The star said nurses told her Derek seemed “focused and engaged” when they put GMB on for him.

Derek is now coronavirus-free but is recovery is a slow process as the virus has “attacked everything”.

This has left him with clots in his lungs, holes in his heart and made him diabetic.

Derek was first struck down with coronavirus in March.

Doctors have warned Kate that Derek may never recover from the damage done to his body by Covid-19.

Kate faced more stress at the weekend after her car tyre blew out on the motorway on Sunday evening, as she raced back to check on Derek.

Speaking on Monday’s GMB, Kate spoke of terrifying moment that saw “rubber flying everywhere” as she had a near miss on her first road trip out with her children since her husband was hospitalised.

She told GMB viewers: “It’s that moment where you think, ‘I can’t control the car’, all weird steering, smoke, bits of rubber flying everywhere.

“I don’t know if it was smoke but it looked like smoke, it could have been burning rubber.”

The star continued: “I managed to pull over, but the section of the motorway we were on, there wasn’t a hard shoulder, and there was feeder road going off, so I was nervous about people coming up on the inside.

“So I called the AA and the drama unfolded, that’s when you feel a bit panicky, because you’re in live traffic.”

Good Morning Britain airs on weekdays on ITV at 6am
