Wiley slapped with Facebook and Instagram ban after anti-Semitic posts

Wiley has been slapped with a social media ban after a series of shocking anti-semitic posts.

The grime artist has been barred from both Facebook and Instagram launching into a vile tirade on both Instagram and Twitter earlier this week.

The decision to reprimand the musician came after Downing Street accused social media bosses of “not being good enough” in terms of their response.

An unverified account, which went by the name of Richard Kylea Cowie, Wiley’s real name, listed a string of Jewish celebrities who had all condemned Wiley’s rants.

The list included comedian David Baddiel, The Apprentice business legend Lord Sugar and BBC presenter Emma Barnett.

One post by the account read: “Emma Barnett get me on your show.”

A second continued: “David Baddiel come and talk to me to my face..Let’s talk.”

Wiley’s Instagram post was taken down as well his official verified page.

In a short statement, Facebook said: “There is no place for hate speech on Facebook and Instagram, and we don’t want it on our platforms.

“After initially placing Wiley’s accounts in a seven-day block, we have now removed both his Facebook and Instagram accounts for repeated violations of our policies.”

Wiley’s Twitter account is still active though multiple tweets have been removed.

The tweets are now blocked out and replaced with a message reading: “This Tweet is no longer available because it violated the Twitter Rules.”

Board of Deputies of British Jews president Marie van der Zyl previously said: “We are aware that Richard Cowie – AKA Wiley – has continued his obsessive targeting of the Jewish community on Facebook, now that Twitter and Instagram are closed off to him.

“We have raised his conduct with Facebook as a matter of urgency and have stressed in the strongest possible terms that they should remove him from their platform as well.

“We are in additional talks with Twitter to urge them to delete Wiley’s account, especially as he has made it clear on Facebook that when he gets back on Twitter he intends to exhibit even worse behaviour.”
