Princess Anne teaches Queen how to use Zoom as she makes cheeky quip in ITV clip

The Queen took part in her first public video call last month and it was her daughter Princess Anne who assisted her mother on Zoom.

A behind-the-scenes clip showing the Princess Royal helping her mother navigate modern technology has been shared ahead of an ITV documentary, which airs tonight, to mark Princess Anne’s 70th birthday on August 15.

At the start of the Zoom meeting, which took place during National Carers’ Week, the monarch’s only daughter is seen waiting for her mother to join the online conversation from Windsor Castle.

“Good morning. I’m very glad to have been able to join you,” the Queen says as she appears on the screen sitting in an armchair in a large drawing room in Windsor.

Princess Anne asks her mother: “Can you see everybody? You should have six people on your screen.”

The Queen, 94, tells her daughter that she can only see four people and Anne jokes: “You don’t need me, you know what I look like.”

The amusing clip has been praised online by adoring fans of the Royal Family.

The full video will be shown during ‘Anne: The Princess Royal at 70’ on ITV this evening.

The amusing clip, shared on Twitter by ITV News Royal Editor Chris Ship, has left fans praising Princess Anne for her humorous antics.

The Queen joined Princess Anne on the conference call in June with four carers living across the UK, who have been responsible for looking after family during the coronavirus crisis.

The monarch spent 20 minutes listening to the women about their experiences and asking questions about the pressures they face.

The new documentary, Princess Royal: Anne at 70, sees the Royal reveal her views about one of social media’s most popular platforms, Twitter, saying: “I wouldn’t go anywhere near it if you paid me frankly.”

Prince Charles, Prince William and Prince Harry all have social media accounts but Princess Anne’s work is shared on the Queen’s Royal Family platforms.

Speaking about it social media Anne says: “‘With online technology… being in touch is one thing but it’s not quite the same. The ability to meet people, that’s what makes the difference.

“I mean, I know what Twitter is but I wouldn’t go anywhere near it if you paid me frankly. But that’s a slightly different issue.”

Princess Anne was followed for more than a year by film-makers for the documentary, which will feature unseen family footage and conversations with the princess herself, her children and her husband, Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence.

The special documentary sees Princess Anne talk openly about her life and work, and the reality of growing up as a member of the Royal family.

Throughout the programme, the Royal talks frankly about a family in which women tended to be seen as “honorary men”, about the challenges for younger royalty, about a bloody kidnap attempt, and about refusing titles for her children, Peter and Zara.
