Caroline Flack inquest to take place today after presenter's tragic death

The inquest into Caroline Flack’s tragic death is set to resume in London this morning.

The 40-year-old former Love Island presenter was found dead in her home Stoke Newington, north-east London, on February 15.

Her inquest will close later today with a hearing at Poplar Coroner’s Court in the capital city.

Flack was due to stand trial for assaulting her boyfriend, former tennis player Lewis Burton, in December, with the alleged incident leading to her stepping down from presenting duties.

The former X Factor star’s family had expressed concerns about her mental health as the trial loomed.

Her partner, Mr Burton also pleaded with the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) to drop the case, but his request was denied.

Flack’s inquest was opened and adjourned during a four-minute hearing in Poplar, east London, on February 19 when the coroner heard the celebrity was found “lying on her back”.

She was declared dead at the scene and her body was identified by her twin sister, Jody Flack.

A family lawyer previously said the television personality died by suicide.

Flack’s death inspired a nationwide “Be Kind” campaign, with celebrities and public figures urging fans to treat one another with kindness.

The slogan was inspired by a sentiment shared by Flack in her final months, as she urged fans to “Be Kind” over social media.

Her wide circle of friends paid tribute to the TV personality in the days and months after her tragic death, with many sharing stories and photos from her 18-year career on the screen.

Flack’s management team, Money Talent Management, criticised the Crown Prosecution after her death, branding the court date as a “show trial”.

A statement issued by Francis Ridley read: “The Crown Prosecution Service pursued this when they knew not only how very vulnerable Caroline was but also that the alleged victim did not support the prosecution and had disputed the CPS version of events.

“The CPS should look at themselves today and how they pursued a show trial that was not only without merit but not in the public interest. And ultimately resulted in significant distress to Caroline.

“Our thoughts are with Caroline’s family at this time.”

The CPS found the case had been handled “appropriately”.

Flack’s mother Chris said her daughter’s legal team and psychologist warned about the potential for the former Strictly champion to kill herself.

“The CPS were fully aware of these matters and the risk when they decided to continue the prosecution,” Mrs Flack said.

She described an allegation that her daughter hit Mr Burton over the head with a lamp as “false”.
