Caroline Flack's mum Christine says family is 'devastated' by her tragic death

Caroline Flack’s mum Christine said the family was “totally devastated” following her tragic death earlier this year.

The 40-year-old former Love Island presenter was found dead in her home Stoke Newington, north-east London, on February 15.

A statement from her mother Christine Flack was read out during the inquest into her death in Poplar, east London, this morning.

She said: “My family and I are totally devastated.”

Christine said the last time she saw her daughter was one week before her death, adding: “When I said goodbye to her that day I never imagined it would be for the last time.”

Flack was due to stand trial for assaulting her boyfriend, former tennis player and model Lewis Burton, in December.

The former X Factor star’s family had expressed concerns about her mental health as the trial loomed.

Her partner, Mr Burton also pleaded with the Crown Prosecution Service to drop the case, but his request was denied.

During today’s inquest, Flack’s mother continued: “I believe that Caroline was let down by the authorities and by the CPS in pursuing the case. I believe this was a show trial.”

Christine added that she has received a written apology from the Chief Crown Prosecutor regarding the comments made about the Love Island star.

She said a lamp was never involved in the alleged attack on Mr Burton.

Christine claimed the prosecutor had been “unkind to Caroline and my family”.

She also claimed she was “threatened with arrest” when she tried to speak to the Chief Crown Prosecutor.

Christine said her daughter “didn’t beat Lewis Burton,” before adding “the only person who was hurt that night was Caroline”.

She said: “Caroline was told not to comment while all the time her heart was breaking.

“She lost a job she loved.

“She was taken to hospital after hurting herself. She was vulnerable.”

Flack’s management team, Money Talent Management, also criticised the Crown Prosecution after her death, branding the court date as a “show trial”.

The CPS found the case had been handled “appropriately”.
