Piers Morgan slams 'tone-deaf' Prince Harry after Meghan Markle announcement

Piers Morgan has gone on a fiery rant on his official Twitter account following Prince Harry ‘s announcement today.

The Good Morning Britain presenter couldn’t help but vent his frustration to his 7.6million followers on the platform.

It comes after Harry dropped a 1,400 word opinion piece that was published today for US business magazine Fast Company.

In it the 35-year-old says social media is “unwell” and has stoked a “crisis of hate”, as he spoke of how he and his wife Meghan Markle plan to make big changes.

Taking to his Twitter account, like usual the newsreader let off some steam.

Piers tweeted: “Prince Harry declares war on division & a ‘crisis of hate’, after co-operating with a book that has deepened division within his own family & fuelled a crisis of mutual hate with his brother.

“Once again, the tone-deaf Duke leads by lack of example.”

He followed it up by attaching a picture of the pair smiling while out on a royal job a few years back.

In the piece which dropped today and was written by Harry, he says him and Meghan, 39, have been contacting big bosses of brands and organisations “we all use in our daily lives” as part of their first steps into redesigning social media.

The Prince said he had issued a clear message; for them to reconsider their roles “in funding and supporting online platforms that have contributed to, stoked, and created the conditions for a crisis of hate, a crisis of health, and a crisis of truth.”

Harry, who is dad to one-year-old Archie Harrison, added that since becoming a father the impact of social media on children “is especially concerning to me” and studies in the future will be “incredibly troubling.”

He also said that while social media is “a seemingly free resource for connecting, sharing, and organising” it is “not actually free; the cost is high. Every time you click they learn more about you.”

“In this ever-changing digital world, we are the product,” he wrote.

The duke, who used to have his own secret social media accounts using the name Spike, says he wants to make it a place with more “kindness and joy”.

He also revealed how he and Meghan have launched a civil rights and racial justice campaign called Stop Hate For Profit.

He said: “From conversations with experts in this space, we believe we have to remodel the architecture of our online community in a way defined more by compassion than hate; by truth instead of misinformation; by equity and inclusiveness instead of injustice and fearmongering; by free, rather than weaponised, speech.

“We have an opportunity to do better and remake the digital world, to look at the past and use it to inform the future. But this is just the beginning.

“And our hope is that it’s the beginning of a movement where we, as people, place community and connection, tolerance and empathy, and joy and kindness above all.
