Simon Cowell started bike riding to get fit after his last horror accident

Music mogul Simon Cowell has injured his back after coming off an electric bike he was testing out in the courtyard Malibu mansion.

The 60-year-old talent show judge was rushed to hospital and a spokesperson for the star said he’s in “safe hands” and is awaiting an operation.

A representative of Simon’s revealed: “Simon had a fall from his bike on Saturday afternoon whilst testing his new electric bike in the courtyard at his house in Malibu with his family.”

In a later update, they added: “He hurt his back and was taken to the hospital.

“He’s doing fine, he’s under observation and is in the best possible hands.”

Simon vowed to embark on a heartier lifestyle after he suffered a horror fall back in 2017.

The ITV star ad to be stretchered out of his London home by paramedics after he fell down the stairs on the way to the kitchen during the early hours of the morning.

Simon described the horrifying incident as a “wake up call” that made him change his ways and take up exercise.

He told The Sun at the time: “They think I fainted because I had low blood pressure and so I have got to take really good care of myself to sort that out.

“I’m OK now. In a way, it was a wake-up call. It wasn’t the end of the world – but a bit embarrassing.

“If I’m honest with you, I was probably over-tired.”

After making a full recovery, the father of one was seen cycling round the streets of LA on one of his two 28mph battery powered bikes he bought to kick-start his fitness regime.

The Britain’s Got Talent and X Factor guru reportedly splashed out £2,000 on each bike, leaving one in London and taking the other to his second home across the pond.

A source told The Sun: “The bikes might be electric but it still has more benefits than getting driven to his desk. It’s a start.”

Simon revealed earlier this year that he had shed a whooping four stone since his horror fall.

He was spotted whizzing around the streets on his bike during coronavirus lockdown with his partner Lauren Silverman and their son Eric, six.

The family were spotted enjoying a day out in Malibu on their bikes with Simon wearing a face mask along with a pair of his trademark aviator sunglasses.
