Britain’s Got Talent judge Simon Cowell, 60, has spoken out on social media after being rushed to hospital on Sunday after breaking his back.

“If you buy an electric trail bike, read the manual before you ride it for the first time. I have broken part of my back.

“Thank you to everyone for your kind messages.”

In a separate post, he sent his gratitude to the many nurses and doctors who treated him in his hour of need.

He said: “And a massive thank you to all the nurses and doctors. Some of the nicest people I have ever met.

“Stay safe everyone. Simon.”

Simon was rushed to the Providence Saint John’s hospital in Santa Monica as a spokesman for the X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent boss said at the time: “Simon has broken his back in a number of places in a fall from his bike whilst testing a new electric bike in the courtyard of his home in Malibu with his family.”

The TV star narrowly missed paralysis after the impact missed his spinal cord by centimetres, according to the Mirror.

A source said: “I spoke to him before the surgery and he was in incredible, ridiculous amounts of pain and also in shock.

“His back was broken in several places, but he is actually very lucky. He fell flat on his back and the doctors say the impact missed his spinal cord by about a centimetre and it could have been a lot, lot more serious.”

The insider revealed he was in surgery for “six hours” and they had to put a “metal rod” in his back to “fix a number of things”.

They continued: “He is recovering in hospital now and we expect him to be there for a few days and then he will take things from there.

“It is too early to say when he will be back on TV.”

His BGT co-star Amanda Holden was quick to send her well wishes, as she shared a heartwarming snap of herself with her “dear friend” while on the set of the talent show.

She wrote: “”I’ve been thinking about my dear friend all day and luckily I’m able to say (with blessing) that he’s had his operation and he’s doing really well.

“Chris Lexi Hollie and me wish you a speedy recovery and send you, Lauren and Eric all our love,” adding a heart emoji.
