In response to Simon’s tweet, outspoken Piers replied: “Stick to that Zimmer Frame I got you in future – it’s more age-appropriate.

“Glad you’re through to the next round.”

Simon was rushed to the Providence Saint John’s hospital in Santa Monica on Saturday,

The TV star narrowly missed paralysis after the impact missed his spinal cord by centimetres, according to the Mirror.

A source said: “I spoke to him before the surgery and he was in incredible, ridiculous amounts of pain and also in shock.

“His back was broken in several places, but he is actually very lucky. He fell flat on his back and the doctors say the impact missed his spinal cord by about a centimetre and it could have been a lot, lot more serious.”

The insider revealed he was in surgery for “six hours” and they had to put a “metal rod” in his back to “fix a number of things”.

Piers was a judge on the first four seasons of Britain’s Got Talent from 2007 to 2010

They continued: “He is recovering in hospital now and we expect him to be there for a few days and then he will take things from there.

“It is too early to say when he will be back on TV.”

Fans and friends have taken to social media to reach out to the star following his accident.

As well as making a cheeky dig, Piers also penned on his Twitter account, “So sorry to hear this.

“Sounds a very nasty accident. I wish Simon a successful operation and a full & speedy recovery.”
