The One Show Alex Jones stunned as Chris Ramsey takes swipe at 'terrible' nails

BBC The One Show’s Alex Jones was nearly lost for words on today’s show when her co-host, Chris Ramsey, took a swipe at her manicure.

Chris, 34, has recently joined the BBC talk show as a presenter, replacing Alex Scott and Gethin Jones during the holiday period.

On this evening’s episode, the Brit funnyman took the opportunity to poke fun at his new colleague’s “terrible” fingernails, as they discussed spending cash.

As more businesses decide to go “cash-free” in times of Covid, the two presenters started chatting about the pros and cons of spending by card.

Alex quizzed Chris about his spending habits, wondering when he last splashed cash – rather than swiping a debit card.

He said: “It was 10 to 10 on Monday morning, Newcastle train station, the taxi driver who dropped us off to come here wanted cash so I paid cash.”

Turning the question around, the comic asked his co-host about her own spending habits, wondering how often she used paper money.

Alex admitted: “I think, this sounds mad, but I think it was a year last April.”

Stunned by the admission, Chris wondered what motivated the spend, as Alex continued: “It was the last time I had my nails done because…”

Cutting her off, Chris swiped: “They are looking terrible at the moment, like.”

Covering up her hands, Alex mimed shock and replied: “Don’t! But they didn’t take card.”

When Chris jibed she could be “a world record holder” – having gone one year without a trip to a nail salon – Alex snapped back.

She insisted: “I’ve just gotten to grips with it now.”

Luckily, the two co-stars managed to laugh it off, as Alex hinted she has learnt the art of painting her own fingernails during the lockdown.

The One Show continues weeknights at 7pm on BBC One.
