Holby City’s Essie Harrison died in a heartbreaking twist on tonight’s final episode.
The soap announced it was taking a break today after running out of episodes, and fans were left distraught after Essie died after battling cancer.
Sacha and Essie were about to tie the knot in a last minute hospital wedding.
Essie, played by actress Kaye Wragg, spent the day getting ready to marry her beau, with Fletch taking her to the ceremony in a wheelchair to walk her down the aisle.
As he transported her there, wearing her elegant wedding gown, she passed away in emotional scenes.

Fletch broke down in tears as he realised Essie was dead, before running to the wedding to tell Sacha the devastating news.
A heartbroken Sacha was left stunned, and when Jac Naylor arrived, he fell into her arms and crumbled to the floor in despair.
He then saw Essie after she had died, still wearing the wedding dress.
In the incredibly emotional scenes, Sacha said goodbye to Essie, putting the wedding ring on her finger.

Viewers were heartbroken watching the emotional final episode before the soap’s break.
One tweeted: “Balling my eyes out at #HolbyCity …. poor Essie.”
While another wrote: “#HolbyCity was so sad tonight! I really wanted Essie and Sacha to have their happy ending. I got tearful when he collapsed in Jacs arms.”
A third added: “My god what an absolutely heartbreaking end to Sasha and Essie!”
