Serpico and Hawaii Five-O star Allan Rich dies after dementia battle

Hollywood star Allan Rich has died at the age of 94 after complications from dementia, his family has confirmed.

He died over the weekend, according to TMZ.

The actor had been living at an assisted-living facility called the Lillian Booth Actors Home in New Jersey.

The New Jersey establishment homed people who had been in show business.

Allan wasn’t especially known for snagging lead roles in Hollywood, but his popularity rose thanks to appearances in television series and films in the 1960s and 70s.

Most notably, the star appeared in movies such as Serpico, The Gambler and The Happy Hooker.

Allan was also known for roles in television shows including Hawaii Five-O, All in the Family, Kojak, Little House on the Prairie, The Incredible Hulk, Magnum PI and Happy Days, among others.

He continued working from the early 1960s until just a few years ago.

Throughout the 1990s he had a steady career with multiple acting jobs coming in each year.

He had three different roles in series The Nanny, and landed a place on the CSI: Crime Scene Investigation cast in the first ever episode in 2000.

In 2013, Allan appeared in an episode of 2 Broke Girls, before his final acting credit in 2014 in Wish I Was Here.

He was best known for playing DA Tauber in Serpico in 1973, however.

Allan’s wife of 62 years, Elaine, died in 2015. She had been the personal manager of names such as Fran Drescher, Peter Marc Jacobson and Donna Dixon.

He is survived by his son David, his daughter Marian, and his two grandchildren Julia and Ruby.

The family have asked for donations to be made to Global Play Brigade to help those impacted by Covid-19.
