EastEnders fans disgusted by Honey and Jay fling after 'working out' affair plot

EastEnders viewers got a bad feeling when the latest show teaser was released, as they speculated over a potential romance in Albert Square.

Soap bosses revealed Honey Mitchell (Emma Barton) and Jay Brown (Jamie Borthwick) will be part of an upcoming storyline, leaving viewers to wonder whether they could fall for each other.

While the two aren’t related by blood, Jay was raised by Honey’s ex-husband, Billy Mitchell (Perry Fenwick), making her Jay’s stepmother.

Taking to Twitter, unhappy viewers expressed their concerns over the potential romance, urging EastEnders scriptwriters against working a fling into the storyline.

One wondered: “Are @bbceastenders hinting at something between jay and honey?”

Another said: “If they go THERE with jay and honey I might be a bit sick.”

And another added: “Me single handedly stanning jay and honey omg i’m sick and twisted.”

“If Jay and Honey start an affair …. we riot! #EastEnders,” chimed a fourth.

However, others slammed the romance claims, and instead speculated over whether Honey could become a mother figure to Jay amid his relationship woes.

Before the lockdown came into place, Jay’s partner, Lola Pearce (Danielle Harold), got embroiled in a devastating affair with Peter Beale (Dayle Hudson).

As Jay’s relationship with Lola hits the rocks in the wake of her cheating scandal, could he turn to Honey for guidance?

Over on Twitter, certain fans were convinced Honey would offer Jay nothing but support, as one wrote: “Omg tf why have i come back to you all thinking ee’s gonna put jay n honey together omfg ?!?? not every time someone bonds w someone it means romantically im scared for u all.”

And another agreed: “Can people stop saying something going to happen between Honey and Jay just bc they’ve grown close don’t give EE any ideas he’s probably just going to start seeing her as the mother he never had and she’ll probably support him when it comes out about Lola and Peter.”

Whether it’s romantic or not, there is drama ahead for Honey and Jay, unfolding in Walford in the coming weeks.

EastEnders will air from 8pm on September 7 on BBC One.
